Self Portrait in Phases

In this portrait, I attempted to capture different phases of a woman's life through a combination of self portraits. The image of Aphrodite in the top left hand corner symbolises the feminine ideal/societal expectations (i.e. sexual desirability, fertility, beauty etc.). In the bottom corners, I have self portraits to convey childhood and domesticity, while the central piece was inspired by an image from my graduation and signifies education. Its placement and size renders it the focal point of the portrait, thereby disclosing the phase has most value for me at present. 

The quote in the top right hand comprises the first lines of Anne Sexton's poem "For John Who Begs Me Not to Enquire Further" to make the autobiographical nature of the portrait more apparent while invoking something of the "everywoman" persona that Sexton makes use of in the poem for my portrait.
